Fruit fly pest control research. Researcher collecting sterilised adult male Caribbean fruit flies (Anastrepha suspensa) to evaluate the effects of methoprene on sexual development. The Caribbean fruit fly is a pest of various cultivated fruits. Methroprene is a hormone that acts as a growth regulator when used as an insecticide. This research is being done to evaluate the effects of methoprene in accelerating sexual development in order to disrupt the flies' life cycle and prevent reinfestation.
