Promoted to brigadier-general in1864, and brevetted major-general in 1865; was offereillieutenant-colonelcy in United States Army, which he de-clined. After the war was in charge of Freedmens Bureauin one of its departments. Was appointed general managerof Winona & Saint Peter Railroad, Minnesota. Removedto Washington Territory
