Autumnal view of the Mansion and the Golf Course, Beckenham Place Park, Lewisham

Beckenham Place Park was the best single wildlife site in the borough, containing a suite of high-quality habitats. These include the most extensive ancient woodlands in Lewisham, the most diverse acid grassland, the most natural stretch of river, probably the oldest pond and the only willow carr. Beckenham Place Park is, however, famous for two things; its vast park that has beautiful surroundings and walks for all who want to escape the bustle of town life; and, of course, its superb public golf course. The old mansion that provided the backdrop to your round is a wonderful sight. The full 18-hole 5722-yard par-68 course is great fun for golfers of all abilities. Forgiving fairways mean you can be aggressive but the placement of the greens creates a challenge. Be advised, though, to book up to a week in advance to avoid disappointment. Beckenham Place Park is a large park located near Beckenham in the London Borough of Lewisham. It lies close to the border with London Borough of Bromley. The Palladian-style mansion that gave the park its name now serves as a community centre and café.
