Western hemisphere. 1786 map of the New World (Earth's western hemisphere) with exploration routes and dates. These include the three voyages of Captain James Cook (1768-1780), and the associated voyages of Tobias Furneaux and James King on the second and third voyages. Other discoveries at lower right include those of Drake (1577) and Vespucci (1502), and South Georgia (1756 and 1775). This is the third edition of this map, produced by the British Royal geographer William Faden (1749-1836) and published in London 'according to Act of Parliament' on 28 October 1786.
