Frons a little more arched, not pruinose, Chilosia. 181 Epistoma similar but the Iower part less prominent, and also less descending. Eye-margins a little broader. Antennæ with the third joint a little larger. Thorax bluish black, similarly haired, but the hairs shorter and a difference between long and short hairs only present on the posterior part and scutellum, and the long hairs only about twice as long as the short. Scutellar marginal bristles alniost not longer than the long hairs. Abdomen likewise with the erect hairs shorter. Legs a little paler, the tibiæ distinctly reddish yellow at the base, in- distinctly at apex; the legs haired chiefly in the same way as in carbonaria, hind femora likewise densely but less strongly setulose beneath.
