Automated Transfer Vehicle (ATV) testing and construction. The ATV is an unmanned resupply spacecraft designed by the European Space Agency to supply the International Space Station (ISS). Several are planned for construction between 2006 and 2013. The first one, named Jules Verne, arrived at ESTEC in 2004. It was launched in March 2008. The supplies are unloaded and the ATV is then filled with waste and deorbited six months later to burn up in the Earth's atmosphere. Jules Verne was successfully deorbited and destroyed on 30 September. Photographed in 2006, at the European Space Technology Centre (ESTEC), near Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
