Looking north west over the Atlantic from Sanna bay, Ardnamurchan, Scotland to the islands of Eigg, Rhum, Muck and Canna.

This image was taken in late summer two miles from the most westerly point in the British mainland, that is Ardnamurchan point in Scotland. Sanna beach has the light sands of many Scottish atlantic beaches which have developed partly from the crushed sea shells of molluscs over millions of years. The right hand island to the north is Eigg and the sharp peak on it is known as the sgurr from the gaelic language for a sharp pointed mountain. The mountains on the largest island Rhum or Rum have norse names rather than Gaelic such as Alival, Ashval and Askival. These names date back over one thousand years when the Vikings invaded the North and West of Scotland.
