Paradise marsh surrounded by urban development. The bay marina of National City, the I-5, and the 54 FWY all surround this portion of Sweetwater Marsh, a unit of the San Diego Bay NWR. This is the common sight if you are riding south on I-5. Many times, you will see several bird species resting or feeding in the marsh. Rather than stop on the HWY to look, you can bird watch safely at the Best Western Hotel parking lot on Bay Marina Drive. There, interpretive signs will explain the importance of Sweetwater Marsh, and what it has meant for the Kumeyaay, the Native Americans of the area
