When the compartment is not needed formotive purposes the motormans seat is turned down,the door is folded back so as to protect the controllingapparatu-s, and a compartment is provided with seatsfor two passengers. A compartment is placed at bothends of the car so that either end can be occupied bythe motorman. The cars are built of wood, the underframe consist-ing of long-leaf yellow pine and white oak. Iron rodsare used for strengthening the frame, and the roof ofthe car is supported by five principal car lines made upof wrought iron bars, forged to the shape ofthe roof, and sandwiched between two white ash carlines bolted
