The Great Lithgow Zig-Zag railway line was first constructed in 1869 to serve local people and to transport goods to Sydney. The line was part of the Main Western Line between Sydney and Perth. The Zig-Zag line operated by both steam and diesel locomotives is now a popular tourist attraction.
