(775) SMOKING THE WABRIOBS. 777 Considering the trouble which is taken inthe preparation of these bodies, and theevident respect which is felt for a bravewarrior in death as well as in life,, the aftertreatment of them is very a friend, or even an individual of thesame tribe, sees one of these mummifiedbodies for the first time, he pays no honor toit, but loads it with reproaches, abusing thedead man for dying when the tribe stood insuch need of brave and skilful men, and say-ing that he ought to have known better thanto die when there was plenty of food in thecountry. Then, after contemplating thebody for some time, he hurls his spear andclub at it, crying out at the same time, Why did you die?
