Dermoid cyst in the midbrain and temporal lobe, gross specimen. A dermoid cyst (grey, lower left) is a slow-growing sac-like growth that is present from birth. Dermoid cysts are most commonly found on the face, inside the skull, on the lower back, and in the ovaries. To find a dermoid cyst occurring in the brain is rare. This one is lined by squamous (skin-like) epithelial cells and filled with gelatinous material and keratin.
