A close up view of the Falkirk Wheel turning on a sunny autumn day

Editorial use only. No commercial use. The Falkirk Wheel is turning with both canal boats in the two boat cradles rotating the 180 degrees to lift/lower the vessels 25 metres. The semi circular visitor centre is behind and the boat piers for mooring are to the left. The main purpose of the Falkirk Wheel is to connect up the Forth and Clyde Canal with the Union Canal avoiding the building of a series of individual locks
