Seedsmen who are interested in gladi- olus bulbs will find a note in the Chicago news letter in this issue concerning the sale of the stock of bulbs of the Kun- 4erd variety, Myrtle. The trade looks forward to an unusu- ally strong demand for onion seed this season, as a result of what is expected to be an inevitable shortage of onion bulbs in the produce markets in late win- ter. Again seedsmen's assistants are in re- quest. There are plenty of men without training, but the approach of another season brings out the dearth of employees capable of going ahead without constant supervision. The new Chicago plant of the Albert Dickinson Co., nearing completion, in- volves an estimated total investment of 13,000,000 to $3,500,000, and will give employment to about 650 men. The •holdings of the company now cover more than seventy acres. It is interesting to note that the im- ports of Dutch bulbs through the port of New York to October 18 were 32,591 ^sases, against 31,396 cases to the same date last year. The difference in the situation is vastly greater, however. Last year there was great outcry about demor- alizing the market and the dumping of surpluses, while this season bulbs are selling fully as well as ever before and many varieties are short of the demand. Prices, here and in Holland, average Tight up to those of normal times. SWEET COBN IN OHIO.
