In doing this,I found that the fracture always took place at thesame point as regards the muscles, nowhere else. Inext dissected one of the fractured pieces of the integument is extremely tough, and difficult to cutin the slow-worra. To the naked eye, as one dissectsit, this skin appears to be disposed in two layers,—anexternal thick layer covered by scales, and an internalthin layer. The external thick layer strips off allround the tail, leaving the thin internal layer, which isan investim^ membrane for the tail. It is whitish incolour, and tough to dissect. An incision was madealong the whole length of this internal layer of tissue,in the median dorsal line. This was carefully reflectedlaterally, with the result that the eight muscles came.
