Chris Ware, supervisor, dynamometer section of the motor shop, explains the purpose of "dyno" testing on engines and transmissions is to ensure they are operating within the manufacturer's specifications, April 20. If not, Ware said the engines are taken apart by the mechanics and rebuilt to like new conditions. If they are within specs, then the engine and transmission are reunited, and in some cases, tested together on the dyno one more time and reinstalled in the vehicle.
