Army Staff Sgt. Luke Wilson, 29, from Hermiston, Ore., who lost his left leg above the knee in a grenade attack in Baghdad, Iraq, in 2004, returned to Iraq thanks to Operation Proper Exit, a program co-sponsored by the United Service Organizations and Troops First Foundation, which allows service members to both return and leave Iraq on their own terms and not through a hasty medical evacuation that uproots them from the battlefield, their buddies and their traumatic experience. Returning wounded warriors get to see first-hand the progress made in Iraq. On Their Own Terms 213483
