Dalziel House, Motherwell, Lanarkshire
Historic house located in Motherwell, Scotland as part of a large estate, now a public country park open to all. House is private and is now flats. The original keep, centre of the picture, dates from the 15th century and was a defensive structure. Extensions were added in the 17th and 18th centuries. Originally owned by the Dalziel family who lost it in 1342 because Sir Robert Dalziel was living in England without the King's permission. The family got the estate back in the 15th century through marriage. Eventually the Hamilton family took it over, adopting the Dalziel titles too, & kept it and developed it until 1952 when it was sold. It became a boarding school until 1967 when the then Motherwell District Council bought it. It was sold in 1985 to developers who made it into flats. The local council, now North Lanarkshire Council, owns the park. The house is said to be haunted by three ghosts, a Green Lady, a White Lady and a Grey Lady.
