Control panel for the ventilation system in the Battle of Britain Bunker
The (Fighter) Group Operations Room at RAF Uxbridge was responsible for planning and coordinating the air defence of London and South East England during World War II. As well as bearing the brunt of the Luftwaffe onslaught during the Battle of Britain, the Operations Room was responsible for controlling fighter operations during the Dunkirk Evacuations and the Normandy Landings. Today the room is shown exactly as it was on 15th September 1940, the day on which Winston Churchill visited and witnessed the conduct of the most significant day of the battle of Britain.
