Tafarn Ty Elise, a pub in Plouye in Brittany in France from Merthyr Tydfil and is famous throughout Brittany.


Originally from Penydarren in Merthyr Tydfil, Bernard (Byn) Walters, 58, has lived in Brittany for 26 years. Tavarn Ty Elise is a pub in Plouye between Carhaix and Huelgoat, about 80 kilometers from the port of Roscoff. It is in Le Guide Du Routard. In addition to offering live music in a traditional pub bar Mr. Walters offers five types of real ale which is unusual in France. In his bar was conceived the idea and the first meeting for the largest open-air pop festival in France, Les Vieilles Charrues, over twenty years ago. Meic Stevens, has performed regularly there. Originally, Mr Walters travel to Brittany for a fortnight's holiday with a group of friends but he met a local girl, settled there and have two children, David and Morwen. Now he is a grandfather. He was voted in a newspaper, he, person who comes to mind when one thinks of Brittany; more than one guide book refers to my Pub as an 'institution' He helped to establish first 'Real Ale' micro-brewery in Brittany. Alan Stivell is his niece's godfather and his daughter's godmother is a daughter one of the 'Soeurs Gouadec' Yann Tiersen has played in the pub and Jean-Claude Dreyfuss drank in the pub and filmed a video there. He said he felt equally at home in Brittany and Wales and is traveling back to South Wales to meet his brother when the nostalgia arises.
