Lavender water and flowers. Lavender water is a preparation containing oil from the lavender plant (Lavandula sp.). An example of a recipe is to add the oil to musk and wine to prepare a perfume. The extracts of lavender are also used in insecticides and antiseptics, as well as treatments for muscle spasms. This bottle of lavender water dates from the Victorian era (19th century Britain).
