Champ Clark Bridge over the Mississippi River

When asked where they're from, residents of the town of Louisiana, Missouri, often find themselves in something like a Laurel & Hardy "Who's on First" routine. "Where are from?" "Louisiana." "Oh, what city in Louisiana?" "Louisiana--in Missouri." "How can Louisiana be in Missouri?" And so it goes. But this little town on the west bank of the Mississippi River has charming Victorian architecture and a splendid bridge that carries Highway 54 into the state of Illinois. Most of the Mississippi river bridges we've crossed are difficult to photograph because of urban clutter, but Louisiana's Riverside Park is perfect for photographers--easy access, plenty of parking, a shelter that lets you change lenses fearlessly in any weather, and unobstructed views of two bridges.
