Devonshire Cemetery is a small Commonwealth War Graves Commission burial site for some of the British Empire and Commonwealth troops killed during the Battle of the Somme. A stone outside the entrance to the trench bears an inscription repeating the words used by troops after their buried their fallen comrades in the trench from where they had launched their attack earlier in the day: "The Devonshires held this trench, the Devonshires hold it still".
