Hantavirus, the causal agent of hantavirus pulmonary syndrome (HPS). This electron micrograph depicts the hantavirus virions responsible for causing hantavirus pulmonary syndrome, or HPS. There is no specific hantavirus treatment, cure, or vaccine, but with early treatment in an intensive care unit, where patients are intubated and given oxygen to help them through the period of severe respiratory distress, they may do better.
