Fitted Gown (robe ajustée). In the 18th century gowns fitted at the back of the body were called robe ajustée. The striking pattern of the fabric – playfully arranged exotic plants and tiny buildings – was fashionable in the 1730s and 40s. The sharply pleated form of the cuffs is typical of the first half of this century.
