The original term Denclrocolcqjtes, it is now agreed, must be restricted to the broad-billed group with more or less strongly- developed transverse radiations, allied to D. certhia. This is divisible into two subgeneric sections—(1) Dendrocops, with the bill narrower and more compressed, and (2) Dendrocolaptes proper, with the rostrum more expanded.
