Extratropical storm Katia. Satellite image of the remains of Hurricane Katia approaching the UK as an extratropical storm on 11 September 2011. North is at top. The clouds (white and blue) at upper centre are the core of the former hurricane and tropical storm which had crossed the Atlantic and is just to the west of northern Scotland. Gale-force winds and heavy rainfall were forecast for Scotland and northern England over the following days. This image was obtained by the Second Generation Meteosat weather satellite, and processed by the Dundee Satellite Receiving Station.
