Kirkby Stephen, Cumbria, UK. 5th June 2018. Weather. Richard Huntly & Members of the travelling community head for Appleby Horse Fair as the roads in Cumbria & the Yorkshire Dales provide grazing for their Cob Horses en route to their annual gathering. The horse fair is held each year in early June. It attracts about 10,000 Gypsies and Travellers and about 30,000 other people. Rather than an organised event with a set programme, it's billed as the biggest traditional Gypsy Fair in Europe, one that's like a big family get-together.

The Fair is an annual gathering of Gypsies and Travellers in the town of Appleby in Cumbria, which takes place on the first week in June, from Thursday to the following Wednesday. The fair attracts travellers and gypsies from around Britain and all over the world. They gather to meet old friends, conduct business, but primarily to trade horses. Traditionally they bath the horses in the River Eden and run on public roads to show them off to potential buyers.
