Contary to appearances the idea behind the project according to Gormley is not put individuals on a pedestal but to celebrate everyday people and the uniqueness of all, regardless of their social status. ' We are all heroes in our own way ' stated GY. citing Jason Clark's place on the plinth as representing his personal triumph over his fear of heights. An antidote in GY's eyes to Celebrity "Big Brother" culture. And by participating in the project the subjects can learn something significant about themselves. The plinth project to GY symbolises new values of a new more fluid society . Values brought into sharp relief when seen in the same physical location as Nelson's column which which an icon of an earlier more regimented set of social norms. Man in the red vest is Jason Clark an NHS nurse from Brighton Lady with balloons is Gill Gatcum releasing balloons for charity during her hour on the plinth.
