The care and repair of signs, glass, doors, cushions,etc., for 2,400 cars keep a large force of men at work repairs are made in the companys shops on Albanystreet. Cars and trucks in ordinary use are cleaned at the car house,wash and pit rooms. Each car is inspected every day. All mo-tors are opened or dropped once a month and at such times trucks. SPECIAL WORK AT DOVER AND WASHINGTON STREETS. are overhauled. So far as possible trucks and motors of eachtype are concentrated at certain houses to lessen the variety ofspare parts carried and facilitate repairs. Truck centers on long ears are 14 ft. trucks of 39-in., 48-in. and 02-in. wheel bases are used;short trucks have wheel bases of 6 ft. C in. The long cars seem to be preferred in Boston to any otherstyle. They take up less room per passenger, in the street, re-quire no greater operating force and are more roomy and health-ful and ride easier than the shorter cars. In track construction a 9-in. girder rail is used laid on a tieplate 1 in. thick with 2x%-in. tie-rods 5 ft. apart.
