The Whimbrel (Numenius phaeopus) standing on the top of maritime statue erected 30 years after the cod war coast Vik Iceland


Statue called For is (6ft) high faces the wind and rain-buffeted Icelandic coastline, at a small community of Vik. It looks across the cold north Atlantic towards Hull. The sister sculpture called Voyage, gazes across the Humber from Victoria Pier. Its eyes follow the direction Hull trawlers would take on their way to Iceland. The sculpture is made from brass on a basalt rock plinth. Both are was made by Icelandic sculptor Steinunn Thorarinsdottir.
