The wire fence al the exhibilicm courts is so built that it can beremoved during exhii)ition tournaments. THE ARCHITECT AND ENGINEER 83 Oakland-Alameda Bascule Bridge IN conjunction with Mr. P. A. Haviland, County Engineer of Alamedacounty, the Southern Pacific Companys engineers have completed thepreliminary plans for the new $1,500,000 joint estuary bridge which isexpected to be a monument to the cities of Oakland and Alameda, tobring a wonderful development of traffic between Oakland and Alameda,to relieve the present congestion and delays on the roadway of the anti-quated Webster street bridge, and. as well, greatly improve navigation onthe channel, permitting freedom of movement of the largest vessels anddreadnaughts through the San Antonia Estuary. The plans indicate that the new bridge will be an imposing and artisticstructure, embodying the highest engineering skill, and providing metro-politan facilities for the great growth of the bay cities which the futureholds, and because it is a joint bridge the structure will be built on
