Portrait of Philip II (1527-1598), King of Spain, Portugal, Naples, Sicily and jure uxoris King of England and Ireland (during his marriage to Queen Mary I from 1554–58). Mary was the first queen regnant of England. On marrying Philip II, she became queen consort of Habsburg Spain on his accession in 1556, but she never visited Spain.
