Murder of Rizzio in front of Mary Queen of Scots 1566
From an Illustration Cassell's Century Edition History of England, pub circa 1901 Mary's husband Darnley had become convinced she was having an affair with Rizzio & plotted with his friends to murder him. Mary never forgave Darnley, later marrying the Earl of Bothwell who was implicated in Darnley's subsequent murder, although this too may have been against her will.
