Philadelphia, Pa. Philadelphia. TRADE BRISK—BEDDING PLANT MEN HIT. The past week was lively enough, weddings, and commEncements keeping all hands on the go continually. The cool weather continues helping the qual- ity of the flowers, as Bridesmaid and other roses still grade very high for the season. Peonies are now to be had in quantity, prices ranging from $3 to $8 per 100. Notwithstanding that they have been so late coming in and missed the demand of Decoration day, they have sold up so close at good figures that the growers think prices will average up to those of other seasons. Carnations arc still in fine form, some very choice stock being seen. The quantity seems to exceed the demand, however, and prices rule low, $2 being high except for a few of the fancies. Lily of the valley seems always in demand. A. J. Pennock, who ships his product to the Pennock-Mee- han Co., and the Floracroft Gardens, of Moorestown, N. J. Walter P. Stokes, proprietor, who sends to Edward Reid, are looked to for the bulk of the supply. The leading plant men have suffered considerably from the continued cool weather, having in many instances to replant beds injured by the chilly winds. It is hoped that June 15 will usher in a specimen of real summer weather. NOTES. Great preparations are being made in this city to receive the Elks on the oc- casion of their convention here next month. A court of honor is being con- structed on Broad street, from Walnut to Arch, which it is said will be up-to- date in every respect and beautifully il- luminated with electricitv. It is hoped that it will be allowed to remain in place and be lighted up on the occasion of the S. A. F. convention as there is a move- ment on foot to make this city one of the foremost for convention purposes. Anothe
