The substance of the historical address is embodied inthis book, here and there; its conclusion may be worthpreservation:— In the preface to the History and Genealogy of theStackpole Family I stated that the aim and wish of theauthor was to lead the youth who bear its name to a justamount of family pride and so become an incentive to broadeducation, earnest endeavor, sympathetic helpfulness, andnoble hving. I trust that the same motive has promptedall who have contributed toward the erection of this number of contributors and the cheerfulness of theirgiving have afforded me much pleasure, and I know that Iexpress the minds of the committee when I here returntha
