The Church of the Annunciation in Nazareth was built over the site which the Catholic tradition holds to be the house of the Virgin Mary and the place where Mary was announced by the angel Gabriel that she would conceive and bear the Son of God, Jesus. This is the reason why the site is extremely important in Christianity
