During the late revolutionary war, and when theFrench had converted Holland into a province of theirmighty empire, Great Britain took possession of theDutch West India colonies. But at the peace ofParis, in 1815, they were all restored to the King ofthe Netherlands, with the exception of the three whichnow constitute the province of British were retained by Britain, and a price actuallypaid for them, notwithstanding that they had beenconquered during the war. The coast-line of thisrich and important colony, may, as I have stated,extend to a little more than 200 miles; but its depth,or length inland, has not (so far as I am aware,) beenas yet determined.
