With the aim of growing womens football in India, the women's IFA Shield tournament was introduced for the first time by the Indian Football Association of West Bengal. For the past 130 years the IFA Shield tournament was only a men's football tournament. Most of the girls who participate in this tournament belong to the Indian indigenous community. The game was played at the Harichand Guruchand Stadium (Tehatta Stadium) at Betai Jitpur, West Bengal. India.
