Fukushima nuclear power plant. Satellite image of the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear power plant in Okuma, Japan, taken before the 2011 earthquake and tsunami. The magnitude earthquake struck 130km off the east coast of Japan at local time ( GMT) on 11th March 2011, triggering an enormous Tsunami. It was the largest earthquake ever recorded in Japan and the 5th largest in the world. Imaged by the GeoEye-1 satellite on 15th November 2009 from 680km in space.
