Rockingham Project No. 588 consists of the construction of miles of reinforcedconcrete pavement from the end of the paved street in Reidsville to thecorporate limits of Wentworth. Construction, which was begun in April,1922, will cost $266,500. Federal Aid Project No. 38 extends from the corporate limits of Reids-ville to the Caswell County line on route No. 70, a distance of is of the top soil type and cost $44,851. This project was authorized to. State Highway Commission 91 be hard surfaced in March, 1922, and contract has been awarded for thiswork. The paving on this project together with that on Project No. 38-B,in Caswell County, has been designated as State Project No. 593 and willbe surfaced with one course of plain concrete pavement at an estimatedcost of $302,176. MAINTENANCE Of a total of miles in this district, miles are under main-tenance by patrol forces. Since the work has been taken over by theState Highway Commission the maintenance consists of bringing the topsoil and sand-clay roads into first-class condition, in building up shoulderson hard surface roads and in rebuilding a number of bridges throughoutthe district. A large part of the work of Rebuilding the bridges has beendone by the floating bridge gangs which move over the entire district re-building and making such repairs to bridges as may be deemed necessary.
