In a forg-ing of luiequal size the crack usually shows parallel to the cross-section where the heavy and lighter sections join; in a forgingof equal cross-section they usually run longitudinal. The steelshould be allowed to cool just below color, then heated from800 to 825 degrees centigrade and cooled slowly in the furnace,lime or ashes.
