Flexner has found theamoeba dysenterica in the pus of an abscess of the jaw. It is found inabscess of the liver and secondary abscess of the lung (see Sputum andFaeces). EXUDATIONS, TRANSUDATIONS, AND CYSTIC FLUIDS. v167 Vermes. Filaria have been found in abscess of the liver. In thesuppuration of hydatids the pus contains membrane and hooklets. Crystals. Crystals of cholesterin are found in the pus from coldabscesses, suppurating ovarian cysts, and foetid discharges. They aresimilar to the crystals described under Sputum. Hcematoidin crystals indicate a previous hemorrhage; they are mostfrequent in suppurating hydatid cysts. (See Fig. 18.) Fatty needlesare found in old pus and gangrenous exudates. (See Fig. 19.) Triplephosphates are frequently seen in pus and are of the same appearance asthe phosphates in the urine. The carbonates and phosphates are seenin foetid pus. Fig. IS. Fig.
