The temple at Ellora, dedicated to the Vigvakarman, or world-architect, containing an image of Buddha, is of the seventhand eighth centuries; the temple in Kanheri, on the island of Sal-sette in Bombay harbor, erected in a corrupt style, is an imitation ofthe grotto of Karli. An inscription names, probably as architect,the worshipful Bodliika ( monk), and an overseer, Skandaraki(Xenagoras?).
