Assistant Secretary of the Navy John Warner, Secretary of Defense Melvin Laird, and Dr. Norman Vincent Peale attend a ceremony on May 13, 1969. The ceremony pays tribute to members of the 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment who were killed while conducting Operation Purple Martin in the Republic of Vietnam. The service took place on the sandy beaches at Cua Viet on the South China Sea.
