The regiment left Camp Stewart on May 12 andreached Camden the following morning. Their arrivalwas announced by the blowing of railroad and factorywhistles and the tolling of church bells. Thousands ofpeople rushed from their homes and factories to the lineof parade to welcome these heroes.
