GURAH, NORTH OF ELWAK, EASTERN KENYA, 1st SEPTEMBER 2009: Fatuma Adan, 25 with her new-born baby, Halima, 2 days old. Her husband took their herd of 25 camels to pasture in Somalia but the whole herd was stolen by militia at gunpoint. Their donkey that they used to use to carry firewood to Alwak died so all they have left is a donkey cart and 10 goats. "We are proud people," says Fatuna, "who would never dream of begging by the roadside but now we are reduced to this." Northern Aid water tankers supplies water to Gurah community. The weekly delivery of water lasts for four days.
