It was destroyed by the great fire which laid Waste so large a portionof the city in December, 1835. A monument is erected to his memory in Trinity churchyard, and is suffi-ciently illustrated by the engraving below. It bears on the north side the fol-lowing inscription : * To the memory of ALEXANDER HAMILTON, the corpora-tion of Trinity church have erected this monument, in testimony of their respectfor the Patriot of incorruptible integrity, the Soldier of approved valor, theStatesman of consummate wisdom; whose talents and virtues will be admiredby grateful posterity long after this marble shall have mouldered into dust.
