Duringthe War of the Rebellion he served with distinc-tion from May, 1861, to July, 1865. He enteredthe service as Brigadier-General, commandingthe Fourth Division of Grants army at PittsburgLanding; was made a Major-General in Septem- CO E Q •a CO.
