Eclipse camera. This camera, a telescope designed to take photographs of the Sun and Moon during an eclipse, was used by British astronomer James Lindsay (1847-1913) in India to observe the total solar eclipse of 12 December 1871. Weighted pendulums allowed for exact timing and alignment of the camera as it recorded the eclipse.
